Job summary

Benton County, MN is seeking a skilled Road Maintenance Technician to maintain and repair county roads, bridges, signs, and related structures. You will operate a range of highway maintenance equipment to ensure safe, efficient travel for the public.

Applicants should have a two-year degree in Equipment Operation and at least two years of maintenance experience, plus a valid Minnesota CDL A. The role involves year-round duties, occasional on-call/emergency responses, and adherence to DOT safety

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher in Equipment Operation or related field.
  • Two years of road/highway maintenance experience or equivalent.
  • Valid Minnesota Class A CDL required; pass background check and pre-employment testing.
  • Ability to obtain required certifications within 1 year.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and inspect county roads, ditches, signs, and culverts in all seasonal conditions.
  • Haul and place gravel and bituminous on county highways and roads.
  • Operate snowplows and heavy equipment to remove snow and apply ice control.
  • Install and maintain traffic control devices and signage; conduct flagging.
  • Communicate with the public regarding operations; respond to questions.
  • Perform monthly inventory checks.
  • Attend training as needed.
  • Assist Civil Engineering Technicians.
  • Subject to emergency calls outside normal hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
