Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an Equipment Operator to perform a range of road maintenance tasks across counties. You will operate tractors with mowers, dump trucks, and power tools, and participate in weather-related activities and emergencies.

Applicant must obtain a Class A CDL within six months of placement; physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs; able to work outside hours as needed. The position is full-time and on-site with a focus on safety and reliability.

Qualifications

• There are no minimum training or experience requirements for this classification.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains equipment (tractor with mower, brush chipper, snow plow) in road maintenance.
• Performs manual labor: clear right-of-ways, clean ditches, patch potholes, repair shoulders and bridges.
• Flags traffic, protects workers and public; available for emergencies and adverse weather duties; on-call may be required.
• Assists in other related duties as assigned.
