Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a maintenance worker to support road and bridge upkeep on the state highway system under supervision. You will operate a 5-yard dump truck, a flatbed, and other equipment to move materials and perform paving, drainage, and vegetation tasks.

A valid motor vehicle license is required, and a Class A CDL must be obtained within six months. The job may involve extended hours, exposure to weather and traffic, and emergency response duties.

Qualifications

• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
• May require Class A CDL within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the construction, repair, and preservation of roads and bridges on the state highway system.
• Operate 5-yard dump truck and other equipment to haul materials and perform maintenance tasks.
• Perform vegetation management to improve signage visibility and ensure drainage and pavement integrity.
• Flag traffic to protect workers, the public, and equipment during road repairs.
• Conduct pre-trip inspections of equipment and vehicles.
• Support emergency or inclement weather operations and be available for extended hours or shifts.
