Qualifications

• Valid motor vehicle operator's license required.
• Must obtain Class A CDL within six months of placement.
• Ability to perform physical labor: lift up to 50 lbs, bend, stoop, reach, twist, climb, balance, kneel, push and pull.
• Ability to work extended hours or 12-hour shifts, day or night, including inclement weather.

Responsibilities

• Operate small equipment such as dump trucks and road patching equipment for highway maintenance.
• Use tools like chainsaws, rakes and shovels in roadway maintenance tasks.
• Pick up litter, debris and dead animals as part of routine maintenance.
• Coordinate placement of traffic control devices to set up maintenance work zones per SCDOT guidelines.
• Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations; may work extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
