Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking personnel to assist in maintaining and preserving roads and bridges on the state highway system. You will operate dump trucks, flatbeds, and small equipment to move materials and perform roadside tasks.

Minimum requirements include a valid driver's license with up to six months to obtain a Class A CDL, ability to lift 50 lbs, and readiness for extended hours or inclement weather as needed.

Qualifications

• There are no minimum training or experience requirements for this classification.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in conditions near traffic and environmental hazards.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintenance, repair, and preservation of roads and bridges on the state highway system.
• Operate standard motorized equipment including 5-yard dump trucks and flatbed trucks for hauling materials.
• Operate small equipment such as brush chippers, rollers, broom sweepers, and pipe washers.
• Conduct pre-trip inspections and maintain fleet safety per department rules and procedures.
• May require extended hours or extended shifts, including inclement weather and emergencies.
