Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is hiring a Highway Maintenance Worker to operate medium equipment and perform manual road maintenance tasks.

The role requires a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within six months. You will maintain equipment, assist in clearing roads, and help direct traffic during construction and emergencies, indoors and outdoors, in varying weather.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience or equivalent.
• Valid motor vehicle operator's license required.
• Must obtain Class A CDL within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operate medium equipment including tandem dump trucks and rollers.
• Assist in loading materials and maintaining vehicles and tools.
• Set up and flag traffic per MUTCD standards.
• Perform pre-operation maintenance inspections.
• Work outdoors in all weather, with exposure to noise and oil/grease.
• Respond to emergencies and overtime as needed.
