Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an experienced equipment operator to operate and maintain medium motorized equipment for roadway maintenance in Dorchester County. This role involves base and surface repairs, patching, and resurfacing prep using tandem dump trucks, patchers, rollers, and loaders.

A valid driver's license is required, with attainment of a Class A CDL within six months of placement.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain medium motorized equipment used in roadway maintenance (e.g., tandem dump truck, patcher, aggregate spreader, large roller >4 tons, skid steer, fuel service truck).
• Coordinate placement of traffic control devices and maintain work zones per guidelines; assist in emergency weather operations; may require 12-hour shifts.
