Job summary

State of South Carolina’s Department of Transportation seeks a Heavy Equipment Operator to perform maintenance and repair work across the district. You will operate a range of motorized equipment, including backhoes, dozers, and excavators, handling drainage, paving, and roadside duties.

Responsibilities include traffic control, weather-related operations, and extending work hours as needed. A CDL is required within six months, with a physical stamina for demanding tasks and outdoor conditions.

Qualifications

• 1 year of related work experience or equivalent.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• CDL Class A must be attained within 6 months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment (backhoe, dozer, excavator, loader, and more) on district work orders and maintenance tasks.
• Perform traffic controls and flagging in work zones and assist with inclement weather operations.
• Complete duties as assigned and adhere to safety guidelines.
