Job summary

The Arkansas Department of Transportation is seeking a Maintenance Worker to operate trucks and heavy equipment for highway maintenance and mowing operations. Responsibilities include maintaining road right-of-ways, operating tractors, and performing manual tasks with power tools while following safety procedures.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write and speak English sufficiently to converse with the public and understand signs.
  • Experience operating a truck, tractor or heavy equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic math and ability to perform simple calculations.

Responsibilities

  • Mow grass and weeds with large tractors and gang mowers.
  • Landscape maintenance and tree cutting with weed-eaters, brush hooks, chainsaws and other tools.
  • Operate a single-axle dump truck hauling materials for highway construction or maintenance.
  • Use power tools and small hand tools to repair highways as needed.
  • Load and unload bags of salt, sand, cement and chemicals; manage materials.
  • Pick up litter and manage debris along roadways.
  • Flag traffic and set up/ take down signs and cones for work zones.
