Job summary

Arkansas Department of Transportation is seeking a Maintenance Aide I to operate a single-axle dump truck and mowing equipment, perform highway maintenance, load materials, and assist with traffic control in work zones.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and speak English sufficiently to converse with the public.
• Basic math skills and ability to understand reports.
• Willingness to learn local streets and highway names.
• Experience with heavy equipment is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Operate a single-axle dump truck and mowing equipment on highway rights-of-way.
• Perform landscape maintenance and roadside upkeep with small power tools.
• Load and unload materials and assist in setting up signs and traffic cones.
• Respond to emergencies as part of a safety-focused crew and perform snow/ice tasks when needed.
