Job summary

The Arkansas Department of Transportation is seeking a Maintenance Aide I to support highway and facility upkeep across districts. Duties include mowing, landscaping, operating a single-axle dump truck, and assisting with traffic control in work zones.

The role requires reading and writing English, basic math and computer skills, and a valid driver’s license; CDL training/endorsement will be required within specified timelines.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and speak English sufficiently to converse with the public.
• Experience operating a truck, tractor or heavy equipment preferred.
• Ability to learn local street and highway names/numbers.
• Basic math and computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Mow grass and weeds with large tractors and gang mowers.
• Perform landscape maintenance and tree cutting along highways.
• Operate single-axle dump truck for highway materials.
• Use power tools and small hand tools for repairs.
• Load and unload materials such as salt, sand, cement and chemicals.
• Pick up litter and assist with traffic control and signage in work zones.
• Respond to emergencies and snow/ice operations as needed.
