Job summary

The Arkansas Department of Transportation District 1 in Marianna is seeking a Maintenance Aide I to operate a single-axle truck and mowing equipment, perform routine highway maintenance, and assist in keeping roadways safe. The role requires CDL readiness, physical stamina, and the ability to work in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities include mowing, landscape work, equipment operation, material handling, litter pickup, traffic flagging, and assisting in work-zone setup.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and speak English sufficiently to converse with the public and complete reports.
• Basic math and computer skills for record-keeping and measurements.
• Willingness to learn local street and highway names and understand traffic signs.
• Experience or training operating trucks, tractors or heavy equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Mow grass using large tractors and gang mowers.
• Perform landscape maintenance and tree cutting in highway rights-of-way.
• Operate single-axle dump trucks for hauling materials.
• Use power equipment and hand tools for repairs and upkeep of highways.
• Load, unload, and stack salt, sand, cement, chemicals, etc.
• Pick up litter and manage waste.
• Flag traffic and assist with setting up signs and cones for work zones.
• Respond to emergencies 24/7; participate in ice/snow removal as needed.
