Job summary

Arkansas Department of Transportation is seeking a Maintenance Aide I to perform road maintenance and operate trucks and mowing equipment in Hazen, AR. The role requires ability to read and communicate in English, basic math, and following instructions.

CDL (Class A with tanker) is expected within probationary periods with pre-employment testing. Work includes maintenance of highway right-of-ways, equipment servicing, and responding to emergencies.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and speak English sufficiently to interact with the public and read signs.
• Basic math skills and ability to use simple devices or computers.
• Ability to follow oral instructions and learn operation of equipment.

Responsibilities

• Mow grass with tractors and gang mowers; landscape maintenance and tree cutting.
• Operate single-axle dump truck to transport materials.
• Use power tools and hand tools for highway repairs and maintenance.
• Load/unload bags of salt, sand, cement, chemicals; flag traffic in work zones.
• Assist crew with setting up signs and cones for work zones.
• Respond to emergencies and support ice/snow removal operations.
