Job summary

Kimley-Horn's Kansas City, MO and Overland Park, KS offices are seeking a Civil Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join their Roadway team. This is not a remote position.

You will collaborate with design teams to develop roadway designs, lead analyses, and prepare specifications for road construction. You will obtain permits, support construction, and ensure safety and quality across projects.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of relevant engineering design experience (MoDOT and/or KDOT/KTA experience preferred).
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) License or ability to obtain within 12 months.
• Proficiency in MicroStation, Open Roads, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the design team to develop roadway designs in compliance with local regulations and project specs.
• Lead analyses, feasibility studies, and cost estimates for roadway infrastructure projects.
• Prepare engineering specifications and select materials for road construction and maintenance.
• Create alignments and geometric designs for roads and intersections with safety and accessibility in mind.
• Obtain permits and approvals from authorities for roadway projects.
• Provide technical support during construction, including plan reviews and progress oversight.
• Conduct inspections and quality control checks to ensure design standards are met.
• Incorporate environmental considerations such as stormwater management.
• Monitor project progress, budgets, and schedules; collaborate with jurisdictions and contractors.
• Assist with building meaningful internal and external professional relationships.
