Job summary

Kimley-Horn's Kansas City, MO and Overland Park, KS offices seek a Civil Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join our Roadway team in the KC area. This is not a remote position.

You will collaborate with design teams to develop roadway designs, perform feasibility studies, and prepare cost estimates while ensuring compliance with local regulations and industry standards. PE license or eligibility within 12 months is preferred.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of relevant engineering design experience, MoDOT and/or KDOT/KTA experience preferred.
• PE license or ability to obtain within 12 months.
• Proficiency with Microstation, Open Roads, AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Strong understanding of roadway design standards and traffic engineering concepts.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, and collaborative teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with design teams to develop detailed roadway designs in compliance with standards.
• Lead analysts, develop project plans, feasibility studies, and cost estimates.
• Select materials and prepare road construction specifications.
• Create alignments and geometric designs for roads and intersections.
• Obtain permits and approvals from authorities for roadway projects.
• Provide technical support during construction and oversee progress.
• Conduct inspections and quality control to ensure design standards are met.
• Incorporate environmental considerations such as stormwater planning.
• Monitor project progress, budgets, and schedules.
• Develop professional relationships with clients, jurisdictions, and contractors.
