Qualifications

• Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.
• One year of Pre Operative or PACU experience required.
• Medical/surgical nursing experience.
• Current state licensure to practice nursing in good standing.
• Successful completion of BLS or Basic Cardiac Life Support within 90 days of employment.
• Successful completion of ACLS within 90 days of employment.
• PALS certification required when pediatric care is included within the facility scope.

Responsibilities

• Promote the mission, vision, and values of SCA Health.
• Assess patient preoperative and postoperative status per facility policies (cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, hemodynamic, pain, mental status).
• Interpret information from noninvasive and invasive monitors.
• Describe pathophysiology of diseases commonly encountered in perioperative care.
• Explain anesthesia techniques and related surgical interventions.
• Develop an individualized perianesthesia plan of care and implement it.
• Manage recovery from anesthesia (general, monitored anesthesia care, regional, local).
• Ensure patient safety during positioning, thermal source exposure, and device usage.
• Communicate patient status during the perioperative continuum and provide pain management as needed.
• Administer medications safely following the eight rights of medication administration.
• Support wound care and tissue perfusion, monitor organ systems, and maintain fluid/electrolyte balance.
• Educate patient and family about perioperative expectations and involve them in care decisions.
• Protect patient rights, dignity, and privacy and provide culturally competent care.
