This RN Medsurg role is on our Oncology Unit here at Cobb Hospital.

Shift: 7pm-7am - 36 hour week.

Job Summary

The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized, high-quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment managed by Nurse Managers and supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. The practice framework is guided by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model, evidence-based practice, and research. RN competencies are derived from these models and aligned with the Wellstar Values.

All RN Clinical Nurses are required to be licensed, knowledgeable, and to uphold the standards outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, the Scope of Practice, and the Code of Ethics by the American Nurses Association. As part of the patient services team, individuals must uphold patient advocacy, adhere to system policies, and support service excellence goals.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation) using evidence-based practice, critical thinking, and individualized care, coordinating with the care team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Provides relationship-based, patient-centered care tailored to population-specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease) with cultural sensitivity.
  • Partners with patients and their significant others through methods like bedside report, interdisciplinary rounds, patient education, and keeping patients' goals central to care planning.
  • Practices according to current clinical standards.

Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Coordinates safe, quality care documentation and delivery, promoting respectful and inclusive interdisciplinary communication (e.g., rounds, case reviews).
  • Demonstrates teamwork that is fiscally responsible and fosters recruitment and retention of healthcare staff.
  • Supports performance improvement initiatives, research, and shared governance activities to promote safe, high-quality patient care.

Professional Development and Initiative

  • Completes initial and ongoing competency assessments, mandatory education, and population-specific training.
  • Acts as preceptor or mentor to foster a qualified workforce and healthy work environment.

Evidence-Based Practice and Research

  • Advocates for evidence-based practice, research, and performance improvement, participating in data collection and clinical inquiry.
  • Adheres to all organizational policies, standards, and regulatory requirements, including TJC Patient Safety Goals.
  • Engages in clinical research and quality improvement activities, consulting experts and utilizing evidence to enhance practice.

Resources and Support

  • Plans proactively for patient care across the continuum.
  • Participates in protocol development and resource management to improve outcomes and reduce readmissions and adverse events.
  • Supports effective use of human and material resources.

Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all Wellstar policies and standards.

Minimum Education Requirements

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Bachelor's preferred).

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse (Single State) or RN - Multi-state Compact license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.

Experience

  • Less than 1 year of clinical experience post-graduation required; completion of accredited nursing program with clinical hours is necessary.
