Description:This position requires a registered nurse to float between intensive care and medical surgical units.The expected patient-to-nurse ratios are 1:1-2 in ICU and 1:4-5 when floating to medical surgical units.Float assignments may require care for various patient populations, including adolescents and adults.Nurses are expected to manage a variety of critical and non-critical patient cases, including post-operative and complex medical conditions.Common diagnoses include congestive heart failure, diabetes, sepsis, and pneumonia.Staff will also be responsible for ventilator management and central line care.Candidates must have skills in managing high-output drains, interpreting arterial blood gases, and monitoring patients on telemetry.Work hours require participation in weekend shifts, typically every other weekend.A vehicle is necessary for this assignment due to the potential for floating to multiple units.It is essential for candidates to demonstrate flexibility, as refusal to float may result in termination of assignment.Candidates should be prepared to commit to working during holidays when necessary.
