Underwriting at Cigna: If you’re looking to use strong analytical, risk management, and portfolio management skills in a competitive, fast-paced environment, an Underwriting career at Cigna will allow you to do all this and more. Underwriters evaluate the risk of insuring a potential Cigna customer and use that information to set premium rates for insurance policies. As part of our Underwriting team, you will directly impact our business daily, protecting Cigna's sound financial position, enabling us to meet our commitments to our customers.

Core Responsibilities:

1. Ability to quickly learn manual and claim experience rating models and related pricing tools.
2. Perform risk assessments and rate development for large and complex cases independently.
3. Develop strategic recommendations related to market competition, product development, and market pricing.
4. Engage with Sales and Producers/Clients through presale and inforce case strategies and market discussions.
5. Assist Sales as a financial consultant on case-specific issues, with a deep understanding of rating models, claim projections, and pricing tools.
6. Manage a complex book of business, focusing on profitable growth, persistency, and earnings.
7. Drive engagement with other Underwriting areas to optimize cross-sale opportunities.
8. Collaborate with product/pricing teams to provide expertise on market needs.
9. Work autonomously, exercising judgment in evaluating techniques and procedures.
10. Hold calls with Sales, brokers, or clients independently.
11. Mentor less experienced underwriters, serving as a technical and strategic expert.
12. Influence underwriting practices and lead by example.
13. Lead or contribute to complex projects, providing innovative ideas for process improvements.
14. Participate in internal projects (10-15% of role) focused on strategy and process improvements.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. At least 5 years of related experience, including 3 years in medical underwriting.
2. Experience must be recent (within the past 5 years).
3. Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Management, Mathematics, Business, or related fields (preferred but not required).
4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
5. Ability to manage complex cases and adapt to market changes.
6. Excellent decision-making and negotiation skills.
7. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
8. Passion and dedication to leadership in the health service industry.
9. Innovative thinking, customer focus, and analytical skills.

For remote work, internet connection must be via cable broadband or fiber optic with at least 10Mbps download and 5Mbps upload speeds. The annual salary range is $86,700 - $144,500, depending on experience and location, with eligibility for an annual bonus.
