Underwriters evaluate the risk of insuring a potential customer and set premium rates for insurance policies. You will directly impact our business daily, protecting Cigna’s financial position and enabling us to meet commitments to our customers.

Core Responsibilities:

1. Ability to quickly learn manual and claim experience rating models and related pricing tools.
2. Perform risk assessments and rate development for large and complex cases independently.
3. Develop strategic recommendations related to market competition, product development, and market pricing decisions.
4. Drive engagement with Sales and Clients through case strategies and market discussions.
5. Assist Sales as a financial consultant on case-specific issues, understanding rating models, claim projections, and pricing adjustments.
6. Manage a complex book of business, focusing on profitable growth, persistency, and earnings.
7. Engage with other Underwriting areas to optimize cross-sale opportunities.
8. Collaborate with product/pricing teams to provide market insights.
9. Work autonomously, exercising judgment in techniques and procedures.
10. Hold calls with Sales, brokers, or clients independently.
11. Mentor less experienced underwriters, serving as a technical and strategic expert.
12. Lead by example to influence underwriting best practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. 3+ years of medical underwriting experience preferred.
2. Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Management, Mathematics, or Business is preferred but not required.
3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
4. Ability to manage complex cases and adapt to market changes.
5. Excellent decision-making and negotiation skills.
6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
7. Passion and dedication to leadership in the health service industry.
8. Innovative thinking, customer-centricity, and analytical skills.

For remote work, internet must be broadband or fiber with at least 10Mbps download and 5Mbps upload speeds.

Anticipated annual salary ranges from $74,300 to $123,900, depending on experience and location, with eligibility for an annual bonus.
