Underwriters evaluate the risk of insuring a potential Cigna customer and set premium rates for insurance policies. As part of our Underwriting team, you will directly impact our business daily, protecting Cigna’s sound financial position to meet our commitments to customers.

Core Responsibilities:

• Ability to quickly learn manual and claim experience rating models and related pricing tools.
• Perform risk assessments and rate development for presale and inforce business for large and complex cases independently.
• Develop strategic recommendations related to market competition, product development, and market pricing decisions.
• Drive consultative engagement with Sales and Producers/Clients through presale and inforce case strategies and market discussions.
• Assist Sales as a financial consultant on case-specific issues. Understand manual rating models, claim experience projections, pricing tools, pricing adjustments, and plan designs.
• Manage a complex book of business with various funding types, focusing on profitable growth, persistency, and earnings.
• Engage with other Underwriting areas to optimize cross-sale opportunities with a whole-case underwriting view.
• Collaborate with product/pricing partners to provide expertise on market-level product and pricing needs.
• Work autonomously, exercising judgment in evaluating and adapting techniques and procedures.
• Hold calls independently with Sales, brokers, or clients.
• Mentor less experienced underwriters as a technical and strategic subject matter expert on complex issues.
• Influence underwriting best practices and lead by example.
• Lead or contribute to complex Risk & Underwriting projects, partnering with management to improve processes and efficiencies.
• This role involves 10-15% internal project work focusing on strategy and process improvement.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years related experience, including at least 3 years in medical underwriting.
• Experience must be recent, within the past 5 years.
• Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Management, Mathematics, Business, or related fields is preferred but not required.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage complex cases and adapt to market changes.
• Excellent decision-making and negotiation skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Passion and dedication to leadership in the health service industry.
• Innovative thinking, customer focus, and analytical skills.

For remote work, a broadband or fiber internet connection of at least 10Mbps download and 5Mbps upload is required.

Salary range: $86,700 - $144,500 annually, depending on experience and location. The role may be eligible for an annual bonus.
