Underwriting at Cigna: If you’re looking to use strong analytical, risk management, and portfolio management skills in a competitive, fast-paced environment, an Underwriting career at Cigna will allow you to do all this and more. Underwriters evaluate the risk of insuring a potential Cigna customer and use that information to set premium rates for insurance policies. As part of our Underwriting team, you will directly impact our business daily, protecting Cigna's sound financial position to meet our commitments to customers.

Core Responsibilities:

• Quickly learn manual and claim experience rating models and related pricing tools.
• Perform case-specific risk assessments and rate development for presale and inforce business, including large and complex cases.
• Develop strategic recommendations related to market competition, product development, and market pricing.
• Engage with Sales and Producers/Clients through presale and inforce case strategies and market discussions.
• Assist Sales as a financial consultant on case-specific issues, with an in-depth understanding of rating models, claim projections, and pricing tools.
• Manage a complex book of business focused on profitable growth, persistency, and earnings.
• Drive engagement with other Underwriting areas to optimize cross-sale opportunities.
• Collaborate with product/pricing teams to address market needs.
• Work autonomously, exercising judgment in evaluating techniques and procedures.
• Hold calls independently with Sales, brokers, or clients.
• Mentor less experienced underwriters, serving as a technical and strategic expert.
• Influence underwriting practices and lead by example.
• Lead or contribute to complex projects, partnering with management for process improvements.
• Participate in internal projects (10-15% of time) focusing on strategy and process improvements.

Minimum Qualifications:

• At least 5 years of relevant experience, including 3 years in medical underwriting, with experience within the last 5 years.
• Bachelor's degree preferred in Risk Management, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Management, Mathematics, or Business.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage complex cases in a dynamic market.
• Excellent decision-making and negotiation skills.
• Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
• Passion and dedication to leadership in health services.
• Innovative thinking, customer focus, and analytical skills.

For remote work, a broadband or fiber internet connection of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload is required. The annual salary range is $86,700 - $144,500, depending on experience and location, with eligibility for an annual bonus.
