Underwriting at Cigna: If you’re looking to use strong analytical, risk management, and portfolio management skills in a competitive, fast-paced environment, an Underwriting career at Cigna will allow you to do all this and more. Underwriters evaluate the risk of insuring a potential Cigna customer and use that information to set premium rates for insurance policies. As part of our Underwriting team, you will directly impact our business daily, protecting Cigna's sound financial position to meet our commitments.

Core Responsibilities:

1. Ability to quickly learn manual and claim experience rating models and related pricing tools.
2. Perform risk assessments and rate development for presale and inforce business for large and complex cases independently.
3. Develop strategic recommendations related to market competition, product development, and market pricing decisions.
4. Drive engagement with Sales and Producers/Clients through presale and inforce case strategies and market discussions.
5. Assist Sales as a financial consultant on case-specific issues, with an in-depth understanding of rating models, claim projections, and pricing tools.
6. Manage a complex book of business focused on profitable growth, persistency, and earnings.
7. Coordinate with other Underwriting areas to optimize cross-sale opportunities.
8. Collaborate with product/pricing teams to meet market needs.
9. Work autonomously, applying judgment to techniques and procedures.
10. Hold calls with Sales, brokers, or clients independently.
11. Mentor less experienced underwriters, serving as a technical and strategic expert.
12. Influence underwriting best practices and lead by example.
13. Lead or contribute to complex projects aimed at process improvement.
14. This role includes 10-15% internal project work focusing on strategy and process improvements.

Minimum Qualifications:

• At least 5 years of related experience, including 3 years in medical underwriting, with experience within the past 5 years.
• Bachelor's degree preferred in Risk Management, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Management, Mathematics, or Business.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage complex cases and adapt to market changes.
• Excellent decision-making, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Passion for leadership in the health services industry.
• Innovative thinking, customer focus, and analytical skills.

For remote work, a broadband or fiber internet connection of at least 10Mbps download and 5Mbps upload is required. The annual salary range is $86,700 - $144,500, depending on experience and location, with potential participation in an annual bonus plan.
