Underwriting at Cigna: If you’re looking to use strong analytical, risk management, and portfolio management skills in a competitive, fast-paced environment, an Underwriting career at Cigna will allow you to do all this and more. Underwriters evaluate the risk of insuring a potential Cigna customer and use that information to set premium rates for insurance policies. As part of our Underwriting team, you will directly impact our business daily, protecting Cigna's sound financial position, which enables us to meet our financial commitments to our customers.

Core Responsibilities:

1. Ability to quickly learn manual and claim experience rating models and related pricing tools.
2. Perform risk assessments and rate development for large and complex cases independently.
3. Develop strategic recommendations related to market competition, product development, and market pricing decisions.
4. Drive engagement with Sales and Clients through case strategies and market discussions.
5. Assist Sales as a financial consultant with in-depth understanding of rating models, projections, and plan designs.
6. Manage a complex book of business focused on profitable growth, persistency, and earnings.
7. Coordinate with other Underwriting areas to optimize cross-sale opportunities.
8. Collaborate with product/pricing teams to meet market needs.
9. Work autonomously, exercising judgment in techniques and procedures.
10. Hold calls with Sales, brokers, or clients independently.
11. Mentor less experienced underwriters as a technical and strategic expert.
12. Influence best practices and lead by example.
13. Lead or contribute to complex projects, proposing innovative and strategic improvements.
14. Participate in internal projects focusing on strategy and process improvements (10-15% of time).

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Minimum of 5 years related experience, including at least 3 years in medical underwriting.
2. Experience must be recent (within the past 5 years).
3. Bachelor's degree preferred in Risk Management, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Management, Mathematics, or Business.
4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
5. Ability to manage complex cases and adapt to market changes.
6. Excellent decision-making and negotiation skills.
7. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
8. Passion for leadership in the health service industry.
9. Innovative, customer-centric, and analytical mindset.

For remote work, a broadband internet connection of at least 10Mbps download and 5Mbps upload is required.

Salary range: $86,700 - $144,500 annually, depending on experience and location, with eligibility for an annual bonus plan.
