Underwriting at Cigna: If you’re looking to use strong analytical, risk management, and portfolio management skills in a competitive, fast-paced environment, an Underwriting career at Cigna will allow you to do all this and more. Underwriters evaluate the risk of insuring a potential Cigna customer and use that information to set premium rates for insurance policies. As part of our Underwriting team, you will directly impact our business daily, protecting Cigna's sound financial position to meet our commitments.

Core Responsibilities:

• Quickly learn manual and claim experience rating models and related pricing tools.
• Perform risk assessments and rate development for large and complex cases independently.
• Develop strategic recommendations related to market competition, product development, and pricing decisions.
• Engage with Sales and Producers/Clients through presale and inforce case strategies and market discussions.
• Assist Sales as a financial consultant on case-specific issues, understanding rating models, claim projections, and plan designs.
• Manage a complex book of business focused on profitable growth, persistency, and earnings.
• Collaborate with other Underwriting areas to optimize cross-sale opportunities.
• Work with product/pricing teams to provide market insights.
• Exercise judgment independently in evaluating techniques and procedures.
• Hold calls with Sales, brokers, or clients independently.
• Mentor less experienced underwriters, serving as a technical and strategic expert.
• Lead by example, influencing underwriting best practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 3+ years of medical underwriting experience preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Management, Mathematics, Business, or related fields preferred but not required.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage complex cases and adapt to market changes.
• Excellent decision-making and negotiation skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Passion for leadership in the health service industry.
• Innovative thinking, customer-centricity, and analytical skills.

For remote work, reliable internet (cable broadband or fiber optic, min 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload) is required. The annual salary range is $74,300 - $123,900, depending on experience and location, with potential eligibility for an annual bonus.
