Job summary

Center for Justice Innovation is seeking an Engagement Specialist for the Transformative Reentry Initiative in Staten Island, NY. You will build trust with participants, co-create support plans, and provide wraparound services to promote successful reentry and reduce recidivism.

You will run individual mentorships, coordinate group programming, and collaborate with community partners while navigating social services and reporting outcomes.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma and 3-5 years of experience working with formerly incarcerated individuals or with lived experience.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Knowledge of reentry, the justice system, community resources, and/or restorative justice practices.
  • Ability to balance collaboration with independent work.
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural humility and competence.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in one-on-one relationships with mentees and families, scheduling and facilitating mentorship meetings several times per week.
  • Develop, facilitate, and coordinate group programming including workshops, restorative justice circles, and community projects.
  • Co-create and oversee all elements of individual support plans with mentees and families.
  • Meet participants at discharge from DOC/DOCCS facilities as needed.
  • Provide referrals to workforce and education programs and assist with navigating social services.
  • Track participant activities and outcomes using online databases.
  • Establish relationships with community partners and attend events in evenings/weekends.
  • Operate a company vehicle for outreach and transport participants to services.
  • Support TRI programming and participate in staff meetings.
