Job summary

Center for Justice Innovation seeks an Engagement Specialist for the Transformative Reentry Initiative in Staten Island. You will engage participants before and after release, co-create support plans, and facilitate restorative practices, employment and educational support, and mentorship.

You will build trust through home visits, circles of support, and coordinated services, connecting participants to community resources and workforce programs as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and 3–5 years' experience working with formerly incarcerated individuals.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Strong knowledge of reentry, the justice system, local resources & restorative practices.
• Trauma-informed, non-judgemental “harm reduction” approach.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work with diverse populations and provide crisis management.

Responsibilities

• Engage mentees and families with regular one-on-one mentorship meetings.
• Develop, facilitate, and coordinate group programming including workshops and circles.
• Oversee all elements of individual support plans for mentees and related meetings.
• Meet participants at discharge from DOC/DOCCS facilities when needed.
• Provide referrals to workforce development and social services; navigate services.
• Track participant activities using online databases and records systems.
• Serve as a community liaison, build partnerships, and attend community events (evenings/weekends).
• Operate a company vehicle for outreach and client transport as needed.
• Support other TRI programming and participate in staff meetings and development.
• Perform other duties to support SIJC and TRI activities.
