What does a Respiratory Therapist do?

The primary purpose of this role is to perform respiratory/pulmonary therapy, management, rehabilitation, diagnostic evaluation, and direct care to patients with pulmonary deficiencies and abnormalities.

Essential Duties:

• Follow schedules and instructions from your supervisor according to established policies and procedures.
• Adhere to facility policies and procedures.
• Conduct focused interviews to identify patient needs.
• Assess signs and symptoms indicating physiological and psychosocial changes in patients.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret data to inform diagnoses and patient care outcomes.
• Coordinate with healthcare team members and document patient care activities.
• Report incidents of unauthorized disclosure of patient information.

Requirements:

• Develop care plans and perform interventions based on patient needs and hospital policies.
• Follow emergency, safety, and infection control procedures.
• Promote effective interpersonal communication.
• Report changes in patient respiratory status to the supervisor.
• Maintain good working relationships with inter-departmental staff.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
• Possess an active CRT or RRT credential.
• Hold at least an Associate Degree from an accredited school; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.
• Graduate of a respiratory care program.
• Minimum one year of respiratory care experience in a skilled nursing, acute, or subacute setting is preferred.
