Job summary

Vinfen is seeking a Direct Support Professional to provide hands-on support to persons served in Vinfen settings, teach skills to enhance independence, and help develop, implement, and document individual treatment support plans.

You will perform rehabilitative and behavioral interventions, monitor progress, coordinate transportation, model community integration, assess status, and report changes to a supervisor.

Qualifications

  • One to three months experience in a human services setting
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Valid US driver’s license, if driving
  • At least 21 years of age and a valid US driver’s license maintained for at least six months, if driving
  • Ability to pass an annual driver’s screening background check, if driving
  • Adequate insurance for use of a personal vehicle, if driving
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, sit, reach, climb stairs, and maneuver through narrow spaces or hallways
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or a two-person lift
  • Ability to operate a computer, calculator, copier, and printer
  • Ability to assist clients with tasks of daily living
  • Ability to speak, hear, and communicate with clients, staff, and external representatives
  • Required close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision, plus ability to adjust focus
  • First Aid required within two weeks of hire
  • CPR required within two weeks of hire
  • MAP required within 150 days of hire
  • Safety Care required within 90 days of hire
  • Knowledge and use of advocacy, communication, empowerment, self-advocacy, physical personal management, household management, and crisis intervention techniques
  • Sensitivity to cultural, religious, racial, disability, and gender issues
  • Teaching skills
  • Ability to document interventions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team

Responsibilities

  • Provide transportation and related support

  • Assess physical and emotional status and report changes to a supervisor
  • Maintain program site safety and cleanliness
  • Support daily living activities including cooking, meal planning, grocery shopping, housekeeping, lawn mowing, snow shoveling, and garbage removal
  • Store, administer, document, and dispose of medication according to MAP requirements, funding regulations, and company policy
  • Complete communication logs, community membership logs, chore schedules, timesheets, and application forms
  • Perform crisis intervention as needed
  • Maintain current contact information with the Relief Pool Coordinator or Human Resources
  • Perform other related duties as required
