Job summary

The NC Department of Transportation seeks an Engineering Supervisor II to serve as Resident Engineer in Division 5 Construction Office. You will manage contract administration for major projects and supervise 20–30 DOT and CEI Engineering Technicians, with duties in plan reading, estimates, and field inspections.

The role requires strong communication with contractors and the public, and oversight of safety, quality and compliance with plans, standards, and specs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering with four years of progressively responsible experience including two years of supervisory experience.
• PE license preferred; ability to obtain registration as a professional engineer in NC may be required.
• Experience in contract administration, plan reading, and supervising inspectors/technicians.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Resident Engineer in a Division 5 Construction Office.
• Manage contract administration for major construction projects and supervise 20–30 DOT/CEI Engineering Technicians.
• Communicate with contractors, municipalities, and the public; ensure compliance with plans, standards, and specifications.
• Prepare monthly and final estimates and maintain records over project life.
• Perform field inspections; balance office and field time about 50/50; supervise and train staff.
