This is an Engineering Supervisor II Level position. The employee in this position will serve as Resident Engineer in a Division 5 Construction Office and be responsible for contract administration of major construction projects & the supervision of 20-30 DOT and CEI Engineering Technicians. This position requires proficiency in plan reading, highway engineering calculations, and familiarity in the operation of survey instruments necessary to stake out line and grade for roadways and structures. Other duties include the preparation of monthly estimates, final estimates, and other record keeping required during the life of a contract construction project. This position requires daily communications with contractors and subordinate personnel to ensure compliance with contract plans, standards, and specifications.
Experience in communicating well with the public, municipalities, professional service providers, and other department units. Possess communication and supervisory skills necessary to supervise and train other employees. Possess the ability to deal with the general public and other units in a positive manner. Ability to frequently speak to public groups and the news media. Able to make inspections in various types of weather and terrain on projects assigned to Division 5. Must be available as necessary to manage staff 7 days per week, 24 hours a day. Time will be split between office and field approximately 50/50. This position will work Division wide. Ability to work outside in various types of weather, terrain, and hours. Employee must be able to lift 50 lbs. Preference given to applicants who are registered Professional Engineers. Safety toe shoes are required.
Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC22 / $75,925 - $148,054

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience including two (2) years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
