Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Division 11, District 2 in Boone seeks an Engineering Specialist II (S) to support highway construction inspection, surveying and project coordination. This role may supervise inspectors on complex projects and conduct independent reviews of plans.

You will assist with traffic control design, review contractor quantities, and prepare technical memos and reports for engineers and public stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Engineering Technology or Survey Technology with 7 years of progressive technician experience, or an equivalent combination.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle legally.
• Experience writing memos, reports and emails conveying technical information clearly.
• Knowledge of engineering standards and procedures for transportation projects.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex inspections of roadway and structure construction.
• Supervise survey crews and oversee traffic control plans.
• Review final estimates and contractor pay quantities.
• Prepare memos and reports conveying engineering concepts clearly.
• Coordinate with engineers, developers, public officials and NCDOT personnel.
