Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineering Supervisor II to act as Resident Engineer in Division 5 Construction Office. You will oversee contract administration for major projects and supervise 20-30 DOT/CEI technicians, ensuring plans and specs are followed.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering and four years of experience including two years of supervisory experience are required; Professional Engineer registration is preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of contract administration to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with the department's specifications, standard drawings and policies.
• Experience in performing engineering analysis on complex contract administration issues, and the timely approval/denial of these issues through supplemental agreements and claims.
• Experience in the supervision of construction engineering inspection personnel to meet department goals.
• Customer service experience related to resolving problems that involve explaining engineering concepts to various customer groups.
• Experience in the management of multiple projects and directing multiple work crews.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Resident Engineer in Division 5 Construction Office and be responsible for contract administration of major construction projects and supervision of 20-30 DOT and CEI Engineering Technicians.
• Proficiency in plan reading, highway engineering calculations, and use of survey instruments for staking lines and grades.
• Prepare monthly and final estimates, and other contract records throughout the life of a project.
• Daily communications with contractors and subordinate personnel to ensure compliance with contract plans, standards, and specifications.
• Interact with the public, municipalities, professional service providers, and other department units; communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Potentially supervise staff across Division 5 and be available as needed to manage work seven days a week.
