Job summary

The University of South Carolina's Enrollment Management division seeks a Reporting & Strategic Data Manager at its Columbia campus. You will develop, install, document, and modify reporting and planning systems, including data visualizations, and lead key reporting initiatives for financial aid and scholarships.

Responsibilities include guiding data analysis, managing system configurations, and delivering enterprise reports and the annual fact book.

Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 3+ years of job related experience; equivalent certifications or training may substitute.
  • Proficient in SQL and reporting tools; able to design and interpret data visualizations.
  • Ability to establish working relationships with vendors, staff, and users; strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for access requests to strategic and operational reports containing financial aid information and coordinates with the Financial Aid Data Steward.
  • Leads the reporting aspects of annual aid year preparation activities related to reporting and data integrity.
  • Assist the Banner implementation/management team with related efforts as needed.
  • Responds to ad hoc data requests from internal and external entities and determines appropriateness.
  • Leads the reporting efforts for the USC-Columbia Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships, including design and maintenance of reports and visualizations; compiles the annual fact book and datasets.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Description

The Reporting & Strategic Data Manager develops, installs, documents, and modifies systems and software for reporting and strategic planning, to include visualizations. Performs system analysis, configuration, and maintains systems for optimum operating efficiency. Provides technical guidance and leadership to internal staff, USC staff and clients. Serves as primary report author for the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of SQL, reporting software, computing hardware, software, network, University information and communication systems.
  • Knowledge of methods of system analysis for determining equipment configurations.
  • Knowledge of software testing and debugging.
  • Ability to establish working relationships with vendors, staff members and users.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with a team.
Job Duties
  1. Serves as the primary point of contact for access requests to any strategic and operational reports containing financial aid information. Determines appropriateness of such requests and relays the recommendation to the Financial Aid Data Steward. Represents the USC-Columbia Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships on University assessment and integrated report design committees. (Percentage of Time: 10%)
  2. Leads the reporting aspects of annual aid year preparation activities, as those activities relate to reporting and data integrity. (Percentage of Time: 10%)
  3. Assist the Banner implementation/ management team with other efforts as needed. (Percentage of Time: 10%)
  4. Responds to ad hoc requests for data and information from both internal and external entities. Determines appropriateness of such requests and responds accordingly. (Percentage of Time: 30%)
  5. Leads the reporting efforts for the USC-Columbia Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships. This includes the design, implementation, and maintenance of all operational and strategic reports, visualizations, the compilation of the annual fact book, and the submission of the annual common dataset information. Serves as a resource for office staff as they create simple queries to support business processes. Creates, implements and maintains management-level strategic reports. Recommends new and innovative approaches to such reports. (Percentage of Time: 35%)
