Job summary

Mortenson is seeking an Engineer III or IV – Physical Substation to perform engineering assignments supporting preliminary and detailed designs for medium and high voltage substations on renewable/storage projects through 500 kV. You will coordinate with Design Phase Managers, Project Managers, and teams to ensure quality deliverables, perform QA/QC, and lead design efforts.

The role requires knowledge of utility-scale substations, option development, and mentoring of engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited)
• 4+ years of related experience and ability to research engineering/design issues
• Working knowledge of Engineering/Project Controls software (Procore)
• PE certification preferred as an asset
• Experience with power systems, substations, inverters, and DC storage solutions
• Strong design optimization skills balancing technical and economic factors
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, CDEGS, Bluebeam
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• MS Excel proficiency for data tracking and analysis
• Ability to travel up to 30%

Responsibilities

• Design utility-scale substation physical layouts for renewable/storage projects
• Lead design efforts and coordinate with stakeholders
• Provide technical support for proposals, estimating, and construction
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and project managers
• Mentor and guide other engineers
• Review equipment vendor quotes with QA/QC oversight
• Ensure documentation aligns with Mortenson QA/QC procedures
• Develop detailed designs meeting safety codes and standards
