Job summary

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. seeks an Electrical Intern to join its renewable energy design team in Minnetonka.

The role applies coursework to design collection systems, interconnection facilities, and balance-of-plant electrical infrastructure for wind, solar, and battery storage projects. You will assist Senior Engineers with one-line diagrams, layouts, equipment specifications, and interconnection studies, while learning industry standards such as IEEE, NESC, and NEC and using tools

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited undergraduate engineering program, preferably in Electrical Engineering.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, management, and design team members.
• Willingness to learn in a flexible, cross-disciplinary work environment.
• Willingness to attend site visits and perform work in outdoor field conditions on occasion.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Work with engineers to obtain training and build foundational proficiency in AutoCAD, PVsyst, SKM/ETAP, and other design software used by Electrical Engineers.
• Assist in the preparation of electrical one-line diagrams, collection system layouts, and grounding plans for solar, wind, and BESS projects.
• Support the development of equipment specifications, bills of materials, and construction documents for interconnection and balance-of-plant facilities.
• Help perform basic load flow, short circuit, and cable sizing calculations under the guidance of Senior Engineers.
• Actively coordinate with internal and external team members across renewable energy projects to ensure effective communication and project progress.
• Apply applicable engineering standards (IEEE, NESC, NEC, and others) under the guidance of licensed Senior Engineers.
