Job summary

Westwood Professional Services in Minnetonka, MN invites you to join our Structural Engineering team as a Structural Intern. You will support the design of foundations and supports for utility-scale wind, solar, and battery storage projects, applying coursework to real-world renewable energy infrastructure under the guidance of senior engineers.

You will learn to use AutoCAD, RISA, and STAAD, assist in calculations and drawings, and participate in field data gathering at project sites.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited undergraduate engineering program, preferably Civil with a Structural emphasis.
• Strong verbal and written communication, able to interact professionally with clients and team members.
• Willingness to learn in a flexible, cross-disciplinary environment.
• Willingness to travel to project sites and work outdoors when needed.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Work with engineers to build foundational proficiency in AutoCAD, RISA, STAAD and other design tools.
• Assist in the structural analysis and design of solar racking, BESS enclosure, and equipment pad foundations.
• Support preparation of structural calculations, drawings, and details for construction documents.
• Help perform wind, seismic, and gravity load calculations per applicable codes.
• Coordinate with internal and external team members across renewable energy projects to ensure progress.
• Travel to project sites to gather data and interface with clients.
