Job summary

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Intern to join a renewable energy design team.

You will work on collection systems, interconnection facilities, and balance-of-plant electrical infrastructure for wind, solar, and battery energy storage projects, from feasibility studies to utility-scale designs. You will learn to apply IEEE, NESC, and NEC standards while assisting Senior Engineers in preparing diagrams, layouts, and equipment specifications.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited undergraduate engineering program, preferably Electrical.
• Effective verbal and written communication with clients, management, and design team members.
• Willingness to learn in a flexible, cross-disciplinary work environment.
• Willingness to attend site visits and perform outdoor work on occasion.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Preferred: experience in electrical engineering coursework or internships.

Responsibilities

• Work with engineers to obtain training and build proficiency in AutoCAD, PVsyst, SKM/ETAP, and other design software.
• Assist in the preparation of electrical one-line diagrams, collection system layouts, and grounding plans for solar, wind, and BESS projects.
• Support development of equipment specifications, bills of materials, and construction documents for interconnection and balance-of-plant facilities.
• Help perform basic load flow, short circuit, and cable sizing calculations under the guidance of Senior Engineers.
• Actively coordinate with internal and external team members across renewable energy projects to ensure effective communication and progress.
• Apply IEEE, NESC, NEC, and other standards under the guidance of licensed Senior Engineers.
