Job summary

Guidehouse is seeking a remote Vascular Surgery Coder to join our national team. The successful candidate will perform ICD-10 and CPT coding for General and Trauma surgery cases, ensuring accuracy and compliance with official guidelines.

The role requires 5+ years of medical coding experience, 3+ years in vascular surgery coding (IP and OP), and CPC certification. EMR experience and strong communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 5+ years of medical coding experience.
• 3+ years of vascular surgery coding experience (IP and OP).
• CPC certification from AAPC required.
• EMR experience preferred.
• Credential maintenance throughout employment required.
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Advanced knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Strong knowledge of Federal & State coding regulations and guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates ability to perform quality surgical coding on General and Trauma surgery chart types.
• Maintains knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding principles and regulations.
• Ensures services documented are coded with correct ICD-10 and CPT codes.
• Aims for 95% accuracy and high productivity.
• Manages review queue to ensure timely coding and communicates corrections.
• Resolves re-bills and communicates with facilities.
• Reports downtime to administrative staff to meet turnaround times.
• Coordinates with IQC staff to ensure quality standards.
• Answers physician/hospital coding questions within eight hours.
• Codes or pending every chart within 24 hours.
• Notifies admin if 24-hour target cannot be met.
• Checks Guidehouse email system every two hours during sessions.
• Maintains current credentials.
• Familiarizes with Guidehouse coding website and daily tools.
• Maintains HIPAA compliant workstations.
• Follows coding division policy manually.
• Collaborates with coding and billing teams for reimbursement.
• Communicates problems or coding discrepancies to supervisor.
• Maintains professional email communications.
