Job summary

Loyal Source Government Services is seeking full-time Surgical Medical Coders to provide remote services to the Puget Sound VA Health Care System. The role focuses on efficient, accurate coding of surgical encounters and timely entry of codes to support high-quality patient care for veterans.

Qualified candidates will have at least 2 years of ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS experience with AHIMA/AAPC certifications.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding experience.
• Knowledge of Anatomy & Physiology, Pathology, and Disease Processes.
• Knowledge of health record format and content.
• Apply knowledge of diagnostic coding and reporting guidelines for outpatient services.
• Knowledge of reimbursement methodologies and coding conventions.
• Formal training in ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems and guidelines.
• Apply knowledge of inpatient diagnostic, procedure, professional, and surgical coding guidelines.
• Knowledge in applying CPT coding rules, modifiers, and sequencing requirements.
• Active AHIMA or AAPC certification with completed ICD-10 training/proficiency requirements.
• Credentials: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, or CPC-H.

Responsibilities

• Code surgical encounters, including pathology and anesthesia services.
• Assign and validate diagnosis and procedure codes for surgery cases.
• Enter coded diagnoses, procedures, and modifiers into the surgery package and encoder.
• Create anesthesia encounters when necessary.
• Review documentation for anesthesia start/stop times and referring provider information.
• Complete surgical coding immediately after surgery when possible and no later than one week from the date of surgery.
