Job summary

ENGIE North America Inc. is seeking a Protection and Controls Lead to oversee substation protection and control systems across renewable energy projects. You will test, troubleshoot, and commission relays while ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in protection and control, strong relay testing experience, and solid SCADA knowledge. Travel and field work are expected, with competitive benefits and bonus opportunities.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or technical certificate.
• Minimum 5 years in substation protection and control systems, relay testing, and electrical system troubleshooting.
• Advanced knowledge of LOTO safety and NFPA 70E compliance.
• Knowledge of protection and control including SEL relays and RTAC integration.
• Ability to read schematics and troubleshoot complex protection schemes.
• Strong understanding of SCADA and protocols (DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850).
• Experience with relay testing and protection zone analysis.
• Meter testing installation, calibration, and diagnostics.
• Experience commissioning protection/control per NETA-ATS-2021/NETA-ECS-2020.
• Ability to train and mentor other specialists.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshooting electrical control systems, analyzing protection zones, and interpreting trip event files.
• Ensuring the performance of protective relays and associated equipment.
• Creating and executing relay test plans, maintaining compliance with standards.
• Develop and implement detailed relay test plans using advanced test equipment such as Doble, Omicron, Manta, or Megger.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues in protection and control systems, focusing on protection zones and trip event analysis.
• Commission and maintain protection and control systems in line with industry standards.
• Coordinate with project teams and contractors for commissioning, maintenance, and upgrades.
• Maintain detailed records in CMMS and test results for regulatory compliance.
• Support additional responsibilities including monitoring system reliability and security compliance.
