Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Substation Engineer to lead and review electrical substations design projects. The role requires strong knowledge of NEC/NESC/NEMA/ANSI/IEEE standards, with responsibilities spanning technical leadership, client support, and business development, all from a fully remote setup in a permanent role based out of Pittsburgh, PA.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience as a Physical Substation Engineer.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical) or related field.
• Proficiency with NESC, IEEE, and other relevant codes and standards.
• Experience in creating and reviewing substation design drawings.
• Ability to organize complex assignments and manage competing priorities effectively.
• Exceptional analytical and decision-making skills.
• Ability to lead staff, delegate assignments, and drive positive results.

Responsibilities

• Act as project lead or independent reviewer for assigned projects.
• Provide technical support for clients and support regional business development initiatives.
• Lead and mentor teams of engineers and designers, ensuring their success on projects.
• Support creation of proposals and scope development.
• Work collaboratively in a project team environment with other engineers and designers.
• Participate in project conceptualization, work planning, and project execution.
• Lead the execution of engineering activities.
• Design physical substations, including equipment layouts, grounding, and control building arrangements.
• Perform calculations for studies and reports, and prepare equipment and installation specifications.
• Coordinate design activities with other disciplines and groups.
• Develop and improve processes, tools, and technology within the organization.
• Provide leadership, training, and mentoring to other engineers and team members.
• Regularly meet and correspond with clients or external partners.
• Perform quality reviews for other engineers and designers.
• Conduct field visits for site walkdowns and construction support.
• Support business development and marketing initiatives.
• Involvement in relay setting development, 3D modeling/design, or technical committee participation.
• Work with the Project Management team to develop project plans and provide updates.
