Job summary

Electric Power Engineers, LLC is seeking a Principal Substation Engineer to lead physical substation engineering from conceptual design through construction support. You’ll establish engineering standards, oversee QA/QC, mentor engineers, and ensure scalable processes as the practice grows across utility projects.

The role demands deep substation experience, PE licensure, and the ability to collaborate with P&C, civil/structural, and transmission teams while delivering high-quality deliverables.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license with ability to obtain licensure in additional jurisdictions.
• 12+ years of progressive experience in electric utility substation engineering and design.
• Experience as Lead Engineer or Technical Lead on substation projects.
• Strong knowledge of physical substation design including equipment layout, grounding, bus design, and protection.
• Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Bentley tools and related design platforms.
• Experience developing engineering standards and QA/QC programs.

Responsibilities

• Lead Engineer or Technical Lead for complex utility substation projects.
• Coordinate interfaces across P&C, civil/structural, transmission and distribution disciplines.
• Develop and review calculations, drawings, specifications, and complete design packages.
• Mentor and develop engineers and designers to increase technical ownership.
• Support development of technical competencies, training, and career progression within Substation Engineering.
• Oversee QA/QC checks and technical reviews across project lifecycles.
