Job summary

SOLV Energy is a leading provider of infrastructure services to the power industry, designing, building and maintaining utility scale solar, battery storage and high voltage substation projects nationwide. The Design Engineer II, Substation owns the preliminary substation design and engineering lifecycle for assigned utility-scale solar, BESS, and related interconnection projects.

This role is fully remote; location details will be discussed during interview.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in electrical substation engineering.
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
• Proficiency in electrical design software (AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar).
• Strong understanding of substation design principles and industry standards (IEEE, NEC, NESC).
• Familiarity with utility interconnection requirements and contract language.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills; travel up to 10%.
• PE licensure is a nice-to-have, not a must.

Responsibilities

• Own the first-pass preliminary substation design approach for assigned pursuits and projects.
• Review client documents, PPAs, interconnection agreements, and related information to identify requirements and risks.
• Serve as primary substation design SME coordinating inputs from engineering teams and subcontractors.
• Lead development of the 10% substation design including single-line diagrams and equipment sizing.
• Coordinate with estimating and scheduling to align design, scope, and schedule.
• Review estimates for technical completeness and identify gaps or exclusions.
• Prepare engineering scope and handoff materials for Preconstruction Engineering.
• Mentor junior team members and foster design process improvements.
