Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a Design Engineer II, Substation to own the preliminary design and engineering lifecycle for utility-scale solar, BESS, and interconnection projects. This role acts as the technical owner from kickoff through handoff and is fully remote with interview-discussed location details.

The position requires strong knowledge of substation design, engineering principles, and ability to coordinate with multiple teams and clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
• PE licensure is a nice-to-have, not a must.
• Minimum of 3+ years of experience in electrical substation engineering.
• Proficiency in electrical design software (AutoCAD, ETAP) or similar.
• Strong understanding of substation design principles and industry standards (IEEE, NEC, NESC).
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to electrical engineering and solar development.
• Familiarity with utility interconnection requirements and contract language.
• Understanding of building codes and engineering principles.

Responsibilities

• Own the first-pass preliminary substation design approach for assigned pursuits and projects.
• Review client documents, technical exhibits, PPAs, interconnection agreements, and related project information.
• Serve as the primary substation design SME coordinating inputs from engineering teams and subcontractors.
• Lead development of the 10% substation design including single-line diagrams and general arrangements.
• Coordinate with estimating and scheduling to align design, quantities, and commercial assumptions.
• Review estimates for technical completeness and identify gaps or exclusions.
• Deliver the owner reviewed preliminary design to estimating and BD.
• Participate in routine client meetings to review technical exhibits and requirements.
• Support contract reviews, markups, and technical responses for LNTP, escalating risks.
• Communicate design decisions and open items clearly to stakeholders.
