WSP is seeking a Substation Design Engineer for our Richmond, VA office, with potential remote work within the United States. You will assist in design, development, and construction of transmission and distribution substations, and related protection and control systems.

Responsibilities include data analysis, preparing reports, and coordinating with engineers and regulators. A Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering and 3–5 years of related experience are required for this role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
• 3–5 years of post-education experience in electrical design for power transmission and distribution.
• Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, and permitting requirements.
• Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management, including rehabilitation and new design.
• Proficiency with discipline-specific design software (CADD, Aspen, CAPE, ETAP, AutoCAD Electrical).

Responsabilités

• Collect, analyze data relating to substation components and equipment specifications for procurement packages.
• Review third-party design documents, procurement lists, and project plans.
• Design electrical systems including single-line and three-line diagrams, layouts, grounding, and protection.
• Develop future-ready designs and operating strategies with sizing and cabling considerations.
• Support senior engineers with research and recommendations on components and field equipment applications.
• Prepare data visualizations, calculations, and drawings for reports and presentations.
• Maintain quality control standards for measurements, analysis, and reporting.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute project work and ensure compliance with permits and specifications.
• Assist with development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects.
• Contribute to technical reports and presentations to address design issues.
