Job summary

WSP is seeking an Experienced Substation Electrical Engineer for our Richmond, VA office to join the Power & Energy Substation Team. You will contribute to planning, design, and construction of utility substations, delivering drawings, calculations and specifications.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of relevant post-education experience, a BS in Electrical Engineering, and strong knowledge of IEEE/NESC standards, with hands-on experience using AutoCAD, MicroStation, and P&C design tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
• 3 to 5 years of post-education experience in electrical engineering for utility substations.
• Knowledge of IEEE/NESC standards and utility/client requirements.
• Experience with planning, design, and construction coordination for substations.
• Familiarity with substation drawings, calculations, and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Support planning, design, and construction of substations including drawings and calculations.
• Review third-party substation design deliverables and project plans.
• Develop electrical calculations such as load, sizing, and voltage drop.
• Prepare design narratives and engineering reports.
• Collaborate with civil/structural disciplines and stakeholders.
