Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Substation Design Engineer for our Richmond, VA office. Successful candidates may work from a mutually agreeable remote location within the United States.

The role involves design, development, and construction of substations and related protection/control systems, with data analysis, reports, and compliance with industry standards. Requires 3–5 years in electrical engineering and proficiency with design software.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 3–5 years of relevant post-education experience designing power transmission and distribution systems.
• Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, and design/build processes.
• Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance for design, development, and construction of substations.
• Design single line and three-line diagrams, layouts, grounding and lightning protection.
• Prepare data, reports, calculations, and visualizations for project needs.
• Contribute to design reviews, procurement packages, and compliance with IEEE/NESC/NERC standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project schedules and budgets.
