Job summary

Strala is seeking a Director of Subrogation to lead and grow our recovery function within a remote US setting. You will own strategy, team performance, and operational execution—from identification of recovery opportunities through negotiation, arbitration, litigation, and collection.

The role requires hands-on leadership, strong technical judgment, and the ability to align people, processes, and technology to deliver measurable net recoveries and client value.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive subrogation or claims recovery experience, including complex property and casualty recoveries.
• 5+ years of leadership experience, with demonstrated success building or improving a recovery operation.
• Strong automobile claims experience, including liability investigation, damage evaluation, and negotiation.
• Working knowledge of multi-state subrogation practices, arbitration, and litigation management.
• Demonstrated ability to improve net recoveries, operational efficiency, and team performance.
• Experience managing vendors, budgets, performance reporting, and client relationships.
• Strong analytical, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant professional experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead subrogation strategy and hit performance measures.
• Forecast recovery results and explain performance to leadership.
• Oversee the full recovery lifecycle from intake to collection.
• Set standards for file assignment, documentation, and closure.
• Provide technical direction on complex recoveries.
• Ensure evidence is preserved and deadlines tracked.
• Evaluate pursuit strategies based on potential and evidence.
• Establish quality reviews and audits to prevent leakage.
• Recruit, coach, and develop subrogation professionals.
• Manage clients, counsel, and external partners.
• Monitor vendor performance and outsourcing value.
• Collaborate with Claims, Legal, Finance and Account Management.
