Job summary

Symetra is seeking a STD Team Lead to oversee a unit of STD claims examiners, ensuring timely adjudication and high-quality service. You will mentor staff, drive production goals, and collaborate with Sales, Underwriting, and Actuarial teams to optimize processes.

The role requires 4+ years in group disability claims, strong coaching skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with limited supervision. A hybrid work setup is available.

Qualifications

• BA/BS or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of 4 years of group disability claims experience.
• Ability to handle multiple competing priorities.
• Ability to function with limited supervision.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Working knowledge of Outlook, Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Prior experience with coaching and mentoring teammates to enable excellence in customer service and claims management while demonstrating role‑model behavior.

Responsibilities

• Supervises the processing of Short-Term Disability (STD) claims to ensure timely adjudication.
• Ensures achievement of customer service and production objectives.
• Supports claims partnership with sales, underwriting, actuarial, customer service and other internal departments.
• Coaches examiners to improve case strategy, decision-making, and negotiation.
• Manages a caseload of claims.
• Drives continuous improvement and handles special projects.
